It's still a high profile, embarrassing scandal. Both scenarios are embarrassing, but if he was pushing the death to get publicity for the Heisman, it's pretty despicable, even though it's not illegal.

Swimming is an individual sport...they try to make it a team sport by having relays and assigning points to places, but in reality, it's entirely individualized.

But there is a restart, just like between the first and second quarters and the third and fourth quarters. The clock stops, there is an official time out and the teams change sides. It sounds exactly the same as hockey's to me (sudden death, continuation of play until there's a score).
