What do you do when China decides that any links to information about Tiananmen Square in 1989 violates someone’s privacy?

This is also a jurisdiction problem. I am not a French citizen and I have not set foot in France for over 10 years. Why am I in America subject to French laws? Why should data sitting on an American server be subject to French orders to delete or block?

I think one problem is that it means you can be enforcing conflicting rules. What if MikeLand rules that you need to remove any instances that mention Mike, while TomLand rules that you need to keep everything that’s not about Tom? Google’s interpretation makes sense there — each country gets what they want, within

Twin Peaks Georgia Coffee ads, 1993. Damn fine canned coffee from Japan.

How could Amazon get a patent on something that already exists? Seriously, I know they “filed” for one, but there should be some kind of penalty for filing FRIVOLOUS PATENTS. Like if you file a patent on something that already exists, and it’s found frivolous, one of your patents randomly becomes invalid.

The Doctor has always been one of the best role models for boys and men.

I am saddened for you, and for all men that can’t seem to fathom the idea that it is okay — MORE than okay — for men to have female role models.

Just putting on record that you don’t speak for me or most other men who are seemingly so obnoxiously precious that we couldn’t possibly stand a female doctor.

The Doctor isn’t inherently male in any way whatsoever, he happens to be a man typically but the qualities he possesses should be something all genders strive

It’s Jane. Jane Bond. Played by Gillian Anderson. It is known.

Let me say this. As a father with a daughter I felt the exact same way as you did. Chills, tears, human emotions. My daughter had all but given up on a Lady Doctor but when I surprised her today with the trailer, the pure joy in her eyes made my day.

I am a 34-year-old woman, I have watched the clip half a dozen times, and I’ve cried every time. To see a woman, to see _myself_, as the Doctor ...

My heart is breaking for all the poor men and boys struggling on without strong role models in the media.

We all know there’s only ever been one Doctor

I cannot but imagine what this will mean to young women.

I’m 37 and had the same reaction, tears included. I’d previously been married to the notion of Hayley Atwell in the role, but was also fully braced for the inevitable regular ol’ white dude. Most of the frontrunners were also names I didn’t recognize, so I was quite prepared to shrug at the reveal.

As a woman who’s the same age as Jodie, getting to see this happen is pretty incredible.

Joanna Lumley did it first

So now, the traditional “this new Doctor is going to RUIN THE SHOW” backlash gets to have a thick layer of sexism on it. Ugh. I hate people.

Really thought they would pay it safe with a Tennant clone. Good work beeb for having the courage to rock the boat.

I watched the clip and when she was revealed I felt the tears come down - they were tears of pure unbridled happiness that I didn’t expect but readily welcome as another glass ceiling is shattered.
