The radar contact should have triggered a “tripwire” on their system. I’ve also heard reports of no Collision Alarm prior to the collision. I do not want to be a fly on the wall during this event’s “reconstruction” (using all data from available analog and digital systems, like a paper Contact Evaluation Plot, audio

“Dare I say that I’ve known a good many people whose job it was to stay watch at night at various places”

Nah, that would apply to lots of stuff.

Or in other words if you’re sailing a relatively quick, manoeuvrable thing you get out of the way of a big, cumbersome thing rather than assume it’s going to conveniently dematerialise.

Ex RN here and similar procedures are followed.

I love this story, but sadly...

Jesus Christ on a sesame seed bun:

Sounds like the destroyer was in fact primarily if not entirely at fault. Lack of attention most likely being the problem here.

The tank itself took very little if any damage, what you see damaged are the ERA plates, which are replaceable. And no, artie fire is very bad for tanks; the top armor is thinnest.

That would be the “driver-be-good-stick”, standard practice in all armor units.

One of the scariest rides I ever had was as a “Track Commander” of a M577 APC returning from maneuvers in Germany. As we descended a narrow, winding, and icy paved road from a hilltop, we began to slide around. Our intercom was out (of course) so I grabbed a section of aluminum pole stowed up top and started to beat

That was a Socialist light pole, Comrade.

More than likely the “damage” to the armor was the reactive armor canisters on the side of the tank and not the actual armor.

I’d get it just for that.

It is an amazing list.

Totally agree. What a stellar line up.

This is FFVI. AKA the best Final Fantasy.

Holy fuck I cannot believe how amazing those games are. I can’t believe we’re getting secret of manna and earthbound and super Mario RPG on the same system. Let alone a star fox to vocalization? Was that ever released in North America?

I’m pretty sure it’s not the bridge that’s stupid.

Here’s a photo from 1956. 61 years ago. Ain’t shit changing.
