Depends on the clutch/car. A normal passenger car with a light clutch is fine. Sportscars with heavy clutches... that’s another matter. But that’s usually compounded with stiff suspension, few amenities, contempt and self-loathing.

For going into 3rd, push the lever out of 2nd, allow it to center in the gate, then push “up” to 3rd. Take advantage of the self centering in the stick (this will be more evident/helpful in a real car)
