Most NASA weekend race entry fees are $200-$350. Plus $45/yr membership and $85/yr race license. These Toyo tires should last a long time. Can’t speak to the other costs

As a stick-shift driver I hate the “stop then creep up” from the car in front of me, but I do understand why people do it.

Crack pipe. Particularly it lost me at two shades of red (one on each drivers side door?)

Here’s the wildest idea of all these days: learn to drive fast (i.e. HPDE) before you start learning to race? Preferrably with a group whose competition license holds more value and/or is more difficult to procure than the prize in a happy meal...

Is Langley Speedway still across the street from there too?

Agreed, I am definitely no fan of understeer. In my opinion the FoST was more fun to drive but the GTI is a better overall car... guess I’m getting old, lol

Underrated as in... they said 252/270 at the crank and it made 242/280 at the tires, i.e. more than the stated numbers at the crank.

Yep. 200 city/300 highway in the FoST was simply not enough. I did a 2k-mile/5-day trip in it and was filling up like every 4 hours? Anyway, between better mpg’s and a bit bigger tank the GTI is getting 200-250 city/350-400 highway driven the same way. Not night and day better, but noticeable...

Sorry to hear it. My GTI has been flawless for 6k miles so far, let’s hope that continues. I need it to be reliable more than I need it to be fun, fast, or anything else...

It was more fun to drive than the E36 M3 with a few go-fast bits that I had at the same time... which just basically understeered.

Yea I thought the DPF on my former mk6 Golf TDI was for soot, not emissions (well not the ones in gas form anyway?) Man that thing smelled bad when it burned off...

Engine electrical issues fixed under warranty. Got so I couldn’t trust the car to get me anywhere and back, so it had to go. If it had been reliable, I might’ve kept it...

Had a ‘14 FoST for a year. Now have a ‘15 GTI PP. As I just said in another post - the GTI doesn’t really feel faster but I suspect that it is. It has a nearly opposite powerband (power all up high) and no torque steer. More understeer and doesn’t rotate as easily, but also gets off a corner better (i.e. puts the

“That’s not the Focus ST. While there’s still some torque steer and it tends towards understeer, this is the easiest to drive HiPo front-wheel-drive car you can buy. It’s exactly what you expect from a hot hatch and with 270 lb-ft of torque it can keep up with some bigger performance vehicles.”

“not to mention that they’re the desirable Vader seats that every M3 owner wishes they had.” ...except any of us well-fed guys who have spent any actual highway time in Vaders. They’re awful compared to the regular sport seats.

One of my biggest gripes. Especially when I’m in a stick shift (which my daily driver is), on a hill. JUST PULL UP TO THE CORRECT DISTANCE THE FIRST TIME, STUPID

That is, in fact, my favorite HST piece of all time and arguably the greatest thing I’ve ever read in my life. I still have the issue of Cycle World it originally appeared in... somewhere

I agree with this in theory. Not a fan of their looks, size, or lack of a third pedal. But they are pretty amazing to drive (on a track: off a corner, not into one.) It’s kinda like forgiving the crappy interior of the C6 Z06...

Thanks for the helpful explanation. Interestingly all three of my recent VWs (10 Golf TDI, 12 GTI, 15 GTI) have gotten better than sticker mpg’s. But the Focus ST I had got noticeably worse than sticker. I thought it was just because I had a heavy right foot, but maybe there’s more to it!

I spend a lot of time on interstates/highways and letting some of these folks go faster is only going to cause bigger accidents. Yes, roads are better. Yes, cars are safer. No, drivers are worse. I don’t think speed limits are the problem... I think lack of accident avoidance training, distracted drivers, and little
