This is not it. I am pretty sure most people would have exited the show pleased had they done the whole Jon Snow duels NK, Arya or Jaime kill Cersei and amazing Dany is crownwd queen arc. Even if it was done poorly. People can forgive a failed attempt of pandering, but a REFUSAL to pander is unforgivable.

Except... it is a kids show and always has been. If anything the sudden attempt with Capaldi to make it adult-oriented is the anomaly and it didn’t really work which is why most of that run was characterised with “the episode wasn’t great except for Capaldi’s monologue”.
