Martha was a great character who was ruined by that one character detail. The whole thing felt off in that Martha seemed like the type who didn’t obsessively crush on random dudes because she’s too smart for that

While true, is correct in regards to Jodi. Although we’ll see what people say when the 14th Doctor shows up and if the cries of “why can’t this Doctor be as good as Jodi’s Doctor” start up as per usual
“Is there a Doctor in the House? No, not that kind of Doctor, I mean one who knows how to fix a broken bone”
It’s been really frustrating to watch as Whitaker is so charming and she’s trying so hard but there’s no weight to her Doctor, she’s not even close to being a full-fledged character. Chibnall still hasn’t quite figured out who she yet and it’s been two seasons. There’s also no sense that he has a concept of the larger…
Moffat also toned down the writing for the season, especially the back half of S7 with Clara, so the show didn’t require him to be as frantic as he was. S5 and S6 sometimes came off like everyone, including Moffat, was whacked out on coke the whole time and everyone stopped snorting it in S7
My understanding of it is that the show isn’t written in a writer’s room, like with American TV shows, so there’s some consistency to the writing as well as more brain storming. In England, they farm it out to one writer and then send it to the show runner to edit. This means the writers are more off by themselves…
I thought it was soccer transfers?
But that was one of the things I did not like about the Capaldi era because that was totally out of character but done because Capaldi himself is such a cool and guy that Moffat at times felt enamored by him. Some episodes felt like Moffat just let him bail out of a weak story by letting him act his way out of it.…
I’m pretty sure she mentioned it to them but didn’t press the issue. Which seems kinda stupid but in line with her weird thing about not telling her “Fam” anything about her. I mean, she had a few valid reasons for not being there
I completely and totally agree and find the whole era kind of dull and skippable when watching the Doctor Who marathon this week but I feel like I’m in a very, very small minority when I say that
One of the shames of this era is that Jodi Whitaker looks like she could be really funny if given the opportunity to. Her Doctor is really fun, but, you’re right in that there’s not a lot of funny bits or humor. This especially in true when compared to Moffat who even at his worst wrote really sparkling dialogue.
Feel like the first half of s7 is underrated. Without any overarching plot line, the episodes are a lot lighter and much less complicated. I also think what sets the Amy and Rory era apart from the others was the emphasis on the relationship between the three characters and s7 is the payoff. If you watch the episodes…
Do people prefer Smith over Capaldi? On here Capaldi and his Doctor are beloved
You can’t show a 100 commercials if the Watch if you don’t draw out the episode
My biggest issue with the Chibnall era is that everything feels low stakes even in the few episodes that aren’t. This was a big, huge, Dalek taking over the earth episode, the kind of episode RTD would go all out on, and yet there wasn’t any tension in it, no feeling of bigness to it. It was supposed to be a big, epic…
Barrowman is always great but he this show has gone so far away from when he was on it it felt like a bad fit. He’s a big character from when the show was big and campy and the Chibnall run emphasizes small character beats and low-key conflicts. They are also decidedly not campy
Why did it take a few minutes to get from somewhere in England to Osaka? Did I miss something or were they taking the scenic route? And why was everybody pissed at the Doctor for leaving them when the reason she left was because she was arrested and thrown into prison? That’s a pretty good reason for not being around
I think they should get somebody who wasn’t a big Fan Boy of the show to take over. The history of the show can sometimes weigh it down, especially when the writer or creator gets carried away by letting their fan boy urges run loose. For instance, the whole “Timeless Child” bit probably meant more to Chibnall as a…
When the farewell started, I actually wondered to myself where Graham had been all episode and then remembered he had a few lines here or there but that was about it. I feel like that farewell scene was supposed to be a big moment and that there are probably people out there who saw it as a big moment but it was kind…
The Doctor Who Christmas Week marathon on BBC America is one of my favorite things, just perfect TV to put on the background while doing other things or for checking out when there’s nothing else on. Unfortunately, it can make episodes like this feel even worse than they are.
