You hit the nail on the head with Weld. He is one of the last of an effectivly extinct-in-the-wild breed of Northeast Republican. That brand of fiscally conservative yet socially liberal (or at least left-leaning moderate) beast has no room left for it in the modern Republican Party.

They want to go back to the Articles of Confederation!

The spoiled-Randian-male archetype ALWAYS falls off the bus right there. You want unfettered personal liberty, bro? OK, stay the fuck out of my uterus.

Roe v. Wade is federal overreach? Wtf does he think keeps abortion legal in the first place? Santa Claus? It’s like saying that you don’t think that men should beat their wives, but laws against domestic violence are over reach.

Yes. We need at least two viable parties. It’s sad that someone I wouldn’t trust with a grocery list is more viable than the current crop of Republicans.

Government would be so much cleaner if the Republicans were actual libertarians. The divisions between that ideology and the standard Democratic one are clear and reasonable, and the disputes that arise stem from differences in underlying values and beliefs, rather than straight partisan animus.

He was a Massachusetts Republican, which means he was pro choice and pro gay rights and fiscally conservative. In his own words, he was “greener than a grape” when it came to the environment. And he wanted to lower the state house flag to half staff when Jerry Garcia died, because he’s a Dead Head (he was talked out

Weld was governor of MA, which has a long tradition of electing relatively sane Republicans in an otherwise heavily Democratic state. He wasn’t too bad.

You are correct, except that Weld personally can’t work with anyone. His ego is infamous and he burned a bunch of bridges back in the 90s. He let in the more rabid Republicans.

its a bullshit answer man...but thank you for explaining it.

Yes, you’re right about Weld, and they’d have been viable were he the top of the ticket. But Johnson is an embarrassment, and the task of splitting the Republican voters between old school Rockefeller types and Trump/ Tea Party types was foiled by this.

Hello!!!

We need to hear this every day.

Raise your hand if you want to cry

Same.

Advance third parties in down-ticket races. Showing up once every four years to crow about the political process is not enough. If you’re (general you) not active in down-ticket races, then it’s time to ask yourself what your actual motives are in complaining.

Jill Stein is not the solution to your issues with Clinton. Get involved with local politics.

I don’t know what it says that predicitive text decided I was typing dog shit, and I just kept going.

Yeah. Chapel Hill. Please.

No. I live in NC. I did as well.
