That’s actually a really good point. My original comment was rather hyperbolic (not unlike the student’s original comment that started this whole kerfuffle!). I can’t imagine actually dissuading my kid from any book that interested her, so I like Heywood’s suggestion of purchasing used copies if we get that far in the

Oh shit, you're right! I hope I can sneak that copy of “The Executioner’s Song” out of her room before she finds it! I think it’s behind all the Barbies...and what about all that Joyce and Hemingway she was getting for Christmas? I'm so screwed...:)

Gee, I can’t think of *anybody* on our national stage who fits this description...oh, wait...

Good idea - and I love your screen name!

My daughter is just on the cusp of being the right age for YA fiction. I’m looking forward to keeping a list of these authors so I can steer my kid away from them. I don’t want to put one cent of profit into the pockets of ”successful”women who would treat anyone like this - especially a young woman who is clearly

I wonder what Frank Loesser’s family thinks of this? Surely they had to get permission from the estate to use the tune.

Agreed. I also think that her comment about joining the committee specifically to prevent Dessen’s books from being selected was meant to sound funny - at least, it sounds funny to me. I say stuff like that all the time. I can completely imagine myself, say, being on a holiday play-selection committee and joking that

John Legend is a doll, but for my money, 1988's Sexiest Man remains unmatched..

Please do!!!! :)

I hide notes to my mom all around her house before I leave. I only get to her house about once a year, and I know she’s really sad when I leave (as am I), so it makes me happy to sneak little Post-Its or paper scraps with little in-jokes or just “I love you” in her desk drawers, coffee cans, behind her pillow, etc.

I do this when I can't sleep! It's a great way to distract your mind from whatever is troubling you.

I can’t keep my hands off cat noses. I just automatically touch any cat’s nose if they will let me. I love that soft, cool leather feel on my finger, palm of my hand, or my own nose. This annoys my cats, so I try not to do it too much, but sometimes I feel like I can’t help it.

I love your posts. How has Bruce not been adopted yet?!? He's such a sweetheart!

It has occurred to me more than once to see if I could get a poster of this and have it professionally framed to hang in my house.

This ad campaign had an outstanding billboard, too. He fight! He don’t play!

Big Freedia is fabulous in everything and should always be front and center. For example, please enjoy Freedia as the star of the greatest local commercial for a personal injury lawyer ever made:

Or Olivia...

While I generally do not condone violence, the outfit Raine is wearing in this photo inspires me to shove her down a flight of stairs.

E. Jean Carroll had her sorority membership revoked after she published an article about one particular chapter. The letter she received is cold as ice and serves as a forward to her book "Female Difficulties."
