I do not get the weird amount of love for Boba Fett in the Star Wars fandom. If you discount the extremely minor role he had in the prequels (which I’m sure was tacked on only because of said weird fandom), he basically does the following in the original trilogy:

His origin consists of essentially “he was a kid at one point” which is kind of...duh. We still don’t know how he actually became Boba Fett, which is what I would kind of expect from an “origins” movie at this point.

I actually see this as a National Security issue if you want the truth. If Creationism is allowed to be taught as ‘fact’ then our students will fail to learn critical thinking, actual science, and as a result, reduce America’s ability research, innovate and fully participate in the Global Economy.

There is no scene, but the hundreds of people (many of whom were former students of mine) whose names are listed in the credits would appreciate you staying out of respect for the incredible amount of work they did! :)

She displays romantic agency and is now a hypersexed trope? She can be both ‘steely’ and have a personal life. That’s what makes her a good character.

I really liked those too. I especially like the fact that Stark’s existential trauma in the wormhole is a thread woven through the films he has appeared in since the first Avengers and has become the thing which appears to be turning him into a dangerous neoconservative. His fear is pushing him to make extremely poor

Natasha’s big thing wasn’t that she was sterile, its that she was a machine built only for murder. The story about her sterility wasn’t her defining tragedy. It was just what she used to try and prove to Bruce that she wouldn’t be giving anything up to be with him, while at the same time having Widow discuss something

I liked this much better than the first. it had more of what I wanted out of an Avengers film. Better action, more banter, stronger relationships, and tons of personality clashes. It was more like reading one of the comics than any Marvel film so far.

James Spader as Ultron was like every piece of snarky, insightful

Unlike Castle Anthrax, which was highly, umm, “pregnable”

Good list, I would probably have chosen Barad-dûr instead of Minas Tirith from LOTR, but that’s just me. Minas Tirith is still quite the formidable castle.

Obligatory:

I loved Lynch’s Dune. It had the right atmosphere and was perfectly cast. The tv series turned Paul into an obnoxious douche, about as mature and likeable as Annakin, and the bene gesserit into a cross between Canadian mounties and Mayflower pilgrims. It looked like the props and costume budget was on par with that of

Wild Wild West

While Lynch’s version wasn’t the book, it at least had a unique look and sensibility. The Sci Fi Channel production managed to make an amazing piece of literature into a boring exhibition of people wearing bad hats in front of poor scenic paintings.

Here’s what NEEDS to be done: CG special effects houses need to unionize and demand fair wages.

So we’re just skipping infinity and going right to beyond?

if it was anything, it was a Terracottasaurus!

Life....finds a way.

This is going to be the next Jurassic Park setup, isn’t it?
