Also bizarre: he cites as a selling point the fact that the machine will refuse to create juice from an expired bag… because of course everyone's big complaint about carrots is that they can't be remotely disabled when they're expired. That's surely worth $400!

The lobby fight sequence in this movie still stands as one of the best moments I've ever experienced in a movie theater. It's incredibly rare that a film spends a good chunk of its running time promising that it's about to blow your mind, and then actually delivers on that promise.

The original Black List script was indeed different, and much darker, so no need for "insane fan theories"

That beat flip, ohmahgaw

If you have any interest in horror, I highly recommend Shudder. It's only $5 / month and they have a lot of good movies that aren't on any other streaming services. (They recently debuted Kiyoshi Kurosawa's new film & TV series, which is exciting stuff for horror nerds.)

It's not always "what" you say, it's the "how" we choose to say it.

It's worth reiterating that the Sovereign Citizens movement is, even by the standards of crazy conspiracy theories, super crazy batshittery. Here's an introductory article by Vox that describes the insanity. Furries + Nazis + SovCits is like the Mount Rushmore of craziness.

I know it's trendy to mock vapers, but it's a whole lot more pleasant to be around people who vape than people who smoke (so much less second-hand smoke!) so I'm all for this

Look at the anti-Planned Parenthood order that Trump signed just today. He may not be religious but his beliefs are very much in line with what's depicted in this show.

I sincerely wish him well. Depression, mental illness, and addiction are all horrible things to go through.

This is dead on. The Transformers movies might actually be mildly tolerable if they weren't filled with humor so unfunny that it's almost avant-garde

Absolutely. There's a great video essay by Every Frame a Painting that explores this in detail - Bay is obsessed with having every shot be impressive, without worrying about whether those individual shots add up to anything meaningful.

I don't like Bay's movies (although 13 Hours was surprisingly tolerable) but I also don't think Hopkins is totally off base. I think Bay really is a very knowledgeable filmmaker who achieves what he sets out to do, even though I don't enjoy what he's doing. I have more respect for him than I do for someone like, say,

MLK didn't tweet about how he supported Wallace before meeting him.

Pleasantly surprised to see Pharmakon here - love her stuff. It's great to see someone pushing the boundaries of noise music; it's practically pop music by genre standards. (That's a good thing.)

I know that Boll is the Nickelback of movie directors, but he's made 2 movies that are legitimately well-made and enjoyable to watch (Tunnel Rats and Rampage). That makes him better than Terrence Malick in my book.

Oh shit this is awesome! The Dirt of Luck is easily one of the best albums of the 90s. Also worth checking out is the Superball EP. I'll definitely be at that Philly show.

ok

(1) Hayden Christensen is very good in Shattered Glass. I know pointless snark is the order of the day, but still.
