Just watched this last night and it was pretty good! For better or worse it really does feel like it could have come out in 1991, complete with dodgy acting & porn-grade cinematography; but I'm a sucker for telekinesis-themed horror movies with lots of gore so I can't complain too much. Begos does a lot here on a…
Von Trier mentions on the Melancholia DVD that he would get multiple cameras on the actors so that they couldn't play to any particular camera; and then on the first take he'd shout "action!" without giving any direction & hope for interesting mistakes. This results in a general sense of real naturality and some great…
I would SO watch that
Ok yes. Fine. Yes, I want to see this very much. I will watch it on vod tomorrow. Are you happy with what you made me do
poe's law strikes again
100% agreed. Stranger Things is good, but it's the 2016 version of someone's idea of the 80s. Beyond the Black Rainbow really could have been made in 1983.
Detroit and chicago would like to have a word with you.
Or do you not consider footwork, juke, detroit techno, and Drexciyan electro to be electronic?
Or perhaps the entire LA beats/Brainfeeder sound?
Or are you claiming that electronic music is not influenced by rap/hip-hop, which is almost entirely an American creation?
The closest I've seen to 90s retro in this way is vaporwave. (EDIT: I see I'm like the 10th person to mention this.) The main touchpoints seem to be video game music and repurposed easy listening - see eg PrismCorp Virtual Enterprises or Chuck Person's Eccojams.
I think the book is quite poor but the idea is good and Fuller knows how to make a TV show. So… signs point to yes?
I'm not too proud to say that "Bag of Lettuce" made me laugh so hard that I probably sounded like a crazy person. I'm obviously easily amused.
The "nothing happens" group miss the fact that it has a lot of really engaging character work - some of the best in the genre - with characters that come intriguingly close to being unlikable, yet you still like them anyhow. Or at least, I do.
HOLY SHIT. Blair Witch + Wingard = TAKE ALL OF MY MONEY
Haha what? The "open marketplace of ideas" does not contain rape threats and racial slurs, sorry
For anyone who is confused and saddened by this: look at the second picture, not this first, which has cruelly cropped out the most important part (you can see the phone camera through the phone case in the second pic). Cropping that out of the first picture was mean. (SPOILER: It is to the right of the right-hand…
You buried the lede: Kahn directed Torque, the greatest movie of our new millennium. It might even be better than Alien vs Predator: Requiem, which is really saying something.
… sexism and harassment are bullshit, and no woman deserves it ever. but
It goes beyond speech. She was fired because she refused to have sex with Ailes.
I'm pretty sure that "women working at Fox News deserve to be sexually harassed" is an awful hill to die on, but do what you have to
Ah, so now we have the "she was asking for it" defense of Fox News. Thanks for that, I guess.
