I appreciate an article going to bat for a musician a lot of people dislike - really, I do - but as someone who lived through the all-too-brief rise and fall of alt-rock and alt-metal in the early 90s, it was painful to see bands I loved like Jesus Lizard and Helmet give way to Korn and Limp Bizkit as the genre dove

I'm increasingly out of touch with critical consensus, I guess, because I thought that Midnight Special was pretty bad and I liked Age of Ultron a lot. If Midnight Special is a reaction to anything, it seems to be made under the premise that Spielberg's movies would be better if they were utterly incoherent from start

The closest album I've found to reproducing the magic of Endtroducing is RJD2's first album, Dead Ringer. There's also an excellent album by Dalek called Negro Necro Nekros which really nails the darker, ambient side of DJ Shadow's output. (Dalek's entire discography is very good.)

As someone who has drunk a whole lot more fizzy water than I should admit to, I would say there's a simpler explanation: La Croix is fucking delicious. Also I am from Ohio and will never stop saying "fizzy water" & "pop"

Oh good, looks like Roth is moving from the crypto-fascism of Green Inferno (which was the essence of Reddit poured onto film, complete with "SJWs ruining everything!" manbaby tears) to full-on fascism. Fuck that guy.

Awesome! The last Nails record is exceptional so I'll be picking this one up for sure.

I'm 99% sure you're trolling at this point, because what he's referring to is a matter of public record and history. It's not obscure:

I don't think so. Check out their other comments.

I'm not following the through-line here. Toxins and bombs are illegal. The point is that yes, you can kill a lot of people if you resort to extra-legal means… OR if you have guns.

Anti-gay bigots = "let's have sympathy for their complex views."
Gay people with raw emotions after a hate crime = "fuck you, asshole."
I don't know why you've chosen this hill to die on, but it's a bummer

"Regulation will have 0% success rate" = "regulation is worthless"

Oh, we're playing the slippery-slope game! Ok, fair enough, we should never ban anything, despite how much scientific evidence there is. (Protip before trying your reductio ad absurdum: check the scientific literature. There is a statistically significant connection between guns and violence. There is not a

I… think you'll need to show your work there. Being in favor of guns leads to people having guns which leads to mass shootings. It's not rocket science. And yeah, I'm very happy to spit on asshole politicians who offer useless platitudes while at the same time enabling mass shootings, cf this chilling chart.

There was a beautiful bit of (not-so-subtle) shade thrown at Trump's ridiculous argument in a recent CBS News article:

This is true. If I recall correctly it was Interscope and they'd already begun preparation for the record.

Fucking love this album. I grew up in Dayton and saw Brainiac so many times at local shows. They always slayed. I met Tim Taylor once at a bar in Oxford, Ohio - I was wearing a nametag because I'd been to some university function earlier that day. He took it off my shirt and started wearing it around. I've never been

I'm not convinced that Ellis finds Bateman pathetic. One of the things that irritated me about the book is that it's not clear what Ellis's point is: is it a dark satire on 80s consumerism or is it just Ellis playing the provocateur, as he usual does in his novels? The movie makes the satire much more explicit, but I

Cosine is indeed both the derivative of sine and a shifted sine (shifted by 1/4 of the period, or pi / 2 for the unit circle - this is equivalent to changing x coord to y coord in the appropriate fashion). The magic of calculus!
