Yup that’s a popular joke, and in this case it holds true.

Iowa
Iowa.
I’d also like to add to the conversation the stupidest traffic jam, which by no means is a rare occurrence in the Midwest:
Somewhere I have a dash cam video from some local festival, they flew in a medical chopper as part of a kids exhibit with emergency vehicles, and as it landed it blew away lots of vendor tents and umbrellas.
Probably a newer E-Class or 5-Series wagon or something else unreliable.
I do love those
My other car is an Alfa Spider and the 9-2x was a replacement for an old Audi A8L. I’m running on a pretty generous definition of “reliable” myself. Granted, the high mileage on my Saabaru is no doubt a contributing factor.
As a proud owner of an ‘05 9-2x Aero that I absolutely love, had I $20,000 to work with, I would probably be driving something nicer.
It’s lovely, but I’m still in that superficial brand snob field. As shallow as it may be, I don’t want my $40,000 sports sedan to say “Toyota Camry” on it.
Last winter, I decided I was gonna drive the two blocks from my dorm to a class I had since I didn’t feel like walking in the snow. Pulling into the parking lot in front of the building where my class was, I forgot that the driveway of the lot narrowed substantially about halfway down, and had a three inch high…
Case in point: many enthusiasts, myself included, don’t buy new. We buy old used cars, or we buy the newer cars just off lease, because we know that that’s where you get the better deal ( Jalopnik has done articles dissuading people from buying new). So if we are all clamoring for manual transmissions, but none of us…
This exactly
So I have to ask...that manual Audi that you daily...did you buy it new?
I’m all for real names...but I’d much rather have a short concise alpha numeric name (300, 550i, A8L, CT6) than Tayan, Bentayga, Urus, or a number of other exceedingly stupid names companies have come up with.
Sybil Lupp might be another interesting person to do one of these WiM articles on. I actually just talked with someone who knew and worked with her a bit, and she was quite the woman.
I find it very un-appealing, but apparently a lot of people like them so they’re popular.
Agreed. I like the design of the new one, apart from the front which looks boring and cheap. But the first gen? Now that car was a real stunner. One of the prettiest modern sedans IMO.
I hate that they decided to pursue uniqueness at the expense of making it look even remotely appealing. Like, I get wanting something that’s a bit different, and I tend to purchase such cars, but being different just by being hideous isn’t my jam. I’d much rather have a tasteful, attractive Audi even with the generic…
