Just FYI, they didn’t try and detonate all 5,000 pounds of fireworks in the containment vessel. They found a bunch of homemade fireworks, and that’s what they detonated.

Because they were dealing with unstable explosive materials in addition to the fireworks. Detonating them in the containment vessel on-site was less risky than trying to move them. Imagine if this explosion happened while the truck was being driven...

Word on the street is that there were some legit explosives in there too. Could also be the LAPD trying to CYA.

I *think* there’s a line of logic that there are more bad things that can happen in transit than there are just by using the supposedly safe truck on-location.

They might have determined that it would be unsafe to put the explosives in a vehicle (or bunch of vehicles) and drive them through other populated areas to dispose of them in a remote area. Really, this seems like a “good” idea, to “safely” dispose of them without having to transport them.

From my understanding the fireworks were hauled away in normal box trucks. In addition to standard fireworks this piece of shit also had an additional 40 IED’s in his possession.
