I … thought Bickle was just a conventional romantic lead. Boy, have I been reading that film wrong :(

Nah, that would've been just as much of a hacky, pretentious-but-not-very-clever-film-studenty ending.
There's not an actor alive who could better convey the pathos of being a yellow M&M
But if the point at the end is that he's killed Birdman and no longer puts himself above other people, there might be sliiiiggghhhtttllly better ways of conveying that than having him literally fly away with the birds
Fuck you! It was a small film but it was masterfully executed, and a searing indictment of late capitalism!
"Also he might have killed himself"
"…what?" to which part?
Good point. At least it sucks in ways that are fun to watch.
My problem with its weirdness is that it seems like weirdness for its own sake - attention seeking gimmicks that don't mean anything or add anything essential to the film.
I thought Selma was great, and I love Common. But that song stinks. Dramatic strings and John Legend should be legally prohibited from coming within 100 yards of a rap song.
Temecula, huh? Well I'm going temeculook like a guy who's had the shit beaten out of him!
Even more amazing is that it was shot with one of those Flintstones cameras where a bird chisels the picture with its beak
Selma was better! Whiplash was better! Nightcrawler was better! I haven't seen Boyhood!
*throws chair at yolo*
*runs away*
When they saw it and it wasn't very good?
But I think the difference is that OHMSS was a continuation of a current film series, not an attempt at reviving a beloved 35-year-old franchise. So there was a freedom there to take the series somewhere new and go for a different tone, which I can't see happening with a new Indy film at this point. Commercial reality…
I think the boat has sailed on successfully making it a Bond-like series, though. They never stopped churning those movies out, and changing the actor, and most of the films weren't even that good. So a new Bond film isn't crushed under the weight of nostalgia-based expectations. I can't see a new Indy film escaping…
"If it was your comeback your Left wing buddies in here would laud you."
To be fair, almost all of those misogynists are also racists.
Oh my god. That's your comeback? "Yeah, I sound like an idiot! But it's only because I'm copying you and you're an idiot!". Fucking hell. I don't know why I bother insulting you when you're doing such a great job of it yourself. Christ, have some self-respect, man.
Literally, the best you can come back with is "I know you are but what am I"? God, you are so fucking dumb it hurts.
