I bought a 2000 Stratus as my shitbox for $1200. Sold it a year later for $1200. For what it was, it was a surprisingly good car. Very spacious, comfortable, and handled surprisingly well. Plus the stereo was killer. 12 disc changer in the back for me to blast Slayer.

This would be a really great, cheap way to get into overlanding. Get rid of those side steps, get a rooftop tent setup / rack and call it a day. Right there with ya man. I drive a goddamn C-max and I live on a dirt road, off of a dirt road, up two large hills, in Vermont. Things get dicey in the winter and mud season but I make it through with a solid set of snows.

What I was getting at was they would just take the existing flat six as is and pop it in. No turbocharging involved. Turbo 4 would be cool a-la the XC90 or CX-9.

They’ll probably use the 6 from the higher trim Outbacks. That’s what they did with the Tribeca. Unlikely they’ll develop an entirely new engine for this as they’ve stuck with the same damn engine on the STI for 10 years plus.
