The bottom line is that partial self-driving cars should not be legal. Either the car should be able to drive itself, completely, with no human intervention beyond “I want to go here,” or it should not have “autopilot” features beyond cruise control.

Planes have routine, scheduled, and mandatory maintenance which is strictly enforced. The same cannot be said for cars. I can only see autonomy taking over meaning the death of private ownership.

Every airliner that goes to altitude has pressurized cargo holds. It would be an immense amount of engineering work to only pressurize the passenger half of an airliner, since the circular cross-section of the entire fuselage is a much better pressure vessel than the D-shaped passenger compartment.
