Fair but I think before Obama, things were more specific. Most people opposed to Obama simply didn’t like him or want him in power because he was a black man, and representative of a shift in the tides. Bill Clinton was hated by the right, but he was white so they just focused on actual policies. 

I bet DC was chosen specifically because it’s something like 95% D at this point.
