Should be really uplifting when dodging human feces and body parts, swimming in a antibiotic-resistence virus and trash soup or daily checks at the 1 hospital to see if you have the Zika virus. Is anyone really going to watch the Olympics being played in that hell hole?

Totally reminded of that scene in “The squid and the whale” (which I sometimes confuse with “The diving bell and the butterfly”) in which the girl asks the boy if he’s read Kafka and he replies, “Yes, I found it a bit Kafkaesque.”

I praised a guys soul patch by saying that “ If I was a man I too would adorn my self thusly”....and then married him so when ever I get a bot snotty he brings that up and I just sit on my hands in utter shame

UGHHHHH, I have emails from when I was studying abroad to my ex bf. Reading through them and I just get so grossed out by myself and my willingness to so readily participate in nonsense. I mean I was 20 years old at the time, but christ on a cracker, you’d think we would never see each other again. I was abroad for 2

Oh god. The thought of pretty much every social interaction before I turned 30 makes me want to crawl under a bed and hide. I avoid reunions at all cost so I can pretend that version of myself never existed. Why did I ever try to be cool? WHY.

I’ve gotten the impression that until recently everyone outside of California (and Florida I guess, but they have inferior avocados) thought avocados were this weird exotic thing instead of the essential staple they obviously are.

Out of regular ingredients? Try my alternate recipe for avocado toast, using items you probably already have lying around. Instead of toast, try using a Post-it Note, or a drink coaster. And if you don’t have any avocado, try replacing it with some nails or packing peanuts.

duh, you need an eyeball-catching box for those situations. I have two: one stowed under my desk at work for when partners call and the second at home for watching scary movies.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment and the book rec! I will look it up at my local library.

I think that’s probably true. Optimization is where it gets nasty - trying to produce the most meat for the lowest cost. If you place no inherent value on avoiding animal suffering, cruelty can make the most financial sense.

This is true of chickens, and there is abuse in the meat industry. Here in California, egg prices have sky rocketed because of rules passed against such treatment. But there is not institutional mistreatment and overcrowding on dairy farms because there is a significant economic interest in the animals being calm and

Seriously, if PETA is your source, don’t bother printing the information. They aren’t reliable. Hell, they stole a Virginia family’s pet dog, killed it and claimed it was a stray, and they are being sued for it (they were fined but it was a slap on the wrist for them). PETA kills animals.

Industrial farming is the pits. But I get the distinct feeling that some of these facts are either trumped up, or presented out of context or missing some crucial qualifiers that would render them less “horrifying.” I know something about the foie gras production and I note the omission of the fact that geese

Oh, the joy of first world privilege when starvation remains a major problem. Look at how much of the information came from fucking PETA. Not reliable. I spend a lot of time around dairy cows, and calves are not fed a mixture of milk and blood. The my get colostrum - which there is more than enough of. Exactly what

Creating food ain't for the weak. And shut up, vegans, or answer for the insect apocalypse that is a wheat field.

And yet a bacon cheese burger or a nice steak is all I want right now

I edited over 12,000 words of my Indian vampire novel this week. I feel good about some of the chapters while I know others need more work. I’m getting to the point (after I’m done with the edit) where I feel comfortable sharing it. I'm gong to find someone to read it.

I get that jinni is your friend, but her comments on the death of Castile implied that the shooting of the officers was more important. It was demanding and derailing in a major way. She implied an article wasn’t forthcoming, or not fast enough, and it had literally just happened. She was angry that she “had” to find

I’ve seen your comments and generally agree with them. Given some of the things you’ve said, I’m surprised you of all people are going after someone and accusing them of being dickish for going after another commentor for wading into a post about the death of Castile to talk about the officers who were shot. Jinni

Correct- The people should not have sued the theater.
