I made the mistake of going to the comments under a tweet about her White House visit comments. It was predictably bad, but I did discover a good term for all the flag-humpers and anthem worshipers...

Got into a yelling match with my mother (OF ALL people) last night when she said something about asylum seekers breaking the law by coming here and I would NOT hear the bullshit again - both barrels she got. This is a woman who raised a couple of activists and was one herself.

Of course people should be helping. I am. I think a lot of people who speak up here are. You need some outrage though. Otherwise you start normalizing it even if you’re trying to help.

I mentioned this earlier in the week, but over the weekend, I visited Stewart Detention Center, a medium-security facility in Lumpkin, Ga., that holds a maximum capacity of 1,800 men who have been detained by ICE on civil charges (basically, being in the country without proper documentation—as opposed to those

Every one should feel moral outrage at what is happening in those camps. That is the only valid response if you have even a shred of human decency and compassion. The concentration camps should not exist - and these detention centers are concentration camps. These people should at the very least be given humane

The last tweet is slightly inaccurate. Ivanka is not nearly as cute as a duckling.

Crystal Dunn was the Player of the Match, though.

I honestly believe that tRump cut funding to these Northern Triangle countries for precisely this reason. I mean, let’s follow this to its logical conclusion. El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, after a concerted program of police force retraining, micro lending, workforce and soil improvements, and modest

Those who fail to learn from history, truly are doomed to repeat it. History will not be kind to people like this. Either they will be the villains or the history books will try to sweep them under the rug and pretend they never existed.

The whole thing is very reminiscent of the Nazis. For all the people who asked how it happened, and how the people just ignored it. This is how. Demonise an “other” and get people to blame their ills on that “other”. Then the supporters will find ways to rationalise any disgusting treatment of human beings

This is why concentration camps always end up degrading into death camps. Even when you have a country that is creating the camp and intending it to be “humane” it turns out not to be because nobody wants to pay for it. And when you have an administration like this one where the leader is a racist, xenophobic,

“Just following the laws” is the civilian version of “just following orders.”

““I blame the parents for letting their children be born Jewish. We shouldn’t go against the Fuhrer, who’s just enforcing the laws that he put on the books in the first place.”

“I blame the parents for letting their children be born Jewish. We shouldn’t go against the Fuhrer, who’s just enforcing the laws.” —The Drumpfs next door, circa 1939.

The article may be a year old, but I doubt that many, if any, have changed their minds. These people don’t care that seeking asylum is legal. They find ways to blame everyone, except for Trump

i’m seriously starting to consider that maybe this ‘internet’ thing has been a horrible, horrible mistake

It has been said elsewhere and better, but:

If you wanted to know how the Germans went on with their daily lives, now you know.

“I know people are tired of old white dudes dominating politics, and I know Warren and I are very similar when it comes to policies and values, but did you know that *Centrists* also like Warren? Progressive ideas that appeal to a broad base? That’s just unacceptable.”

He was definitely taking a jab at her, and playing the sexism / ageism card sure as Hell didn’t improve the optics. “Oh, well, she’s a woman and she’s not 1,000 years old; that’s why people like her!”

It doesn’t really matter if he meant to take a shot at her, because by ignoring the fact she has the most detailed policy platform of any candidate BY MILES and chalking it up to her gender, he is participating in the sexist media narrative that follows around all accomplished women. They absolutely could co-exist. He
