This time they both disobeyed her direct orders.

While in terms of structure or story the double episode could be considered “rushed”, they did manage to put enough of an ominous ticking clock into it that it didn’t feel artificially rushed, IMHO. Just things moving headlong forward, and everyone trying to make the best call in the situation.
I’ll disagree with Zack…
Rather than picking on relatively minor plot flaws, why not comment on what we did get? As much as it pains me to praise SyFy after the rollercoaster of cancelling the show, we were given a bonus 13th episode for the finale. Not only that, the double episode aired with very few commercial interruptions. I was actually…
I think a lot of people are missing a very important point. Ashford made it perfectly clear why he wanted to destroy the ring even if shutting down the drives could have saved them all. He knew that even if they got out and told everyone that they should all just walk away and never go into the right again, that it…
I really thought Drummer was dog meat. When that elevator came smashing down on Harari’s head, I cheered and started cracking up.
There isn’t a lot of world hopping in the books. The gates for the different systems are as far out from those systems’ habitable planets as the gate in the Solar System is from Earth. In other words it’s still a long trip to get anywhere.
The last several weeks I have had The Expanse, Legion and Westworld, and although all have their pleasures, The Expanse was easily the best of the three. It may not be as experimental or philosophical as the other two but it also knows how to tell a good story without disappearing up it’s own ass.
Back when the show was cancelled (but before it was un-cancelled) the producers had said that this season didn’t have a big cliffhanger, and that it would even provide some reasonable closure.
I’m so glad The Expanse has pulled back from Game-of-Thronesitis and doesn’t create drama by killing off beloved characters. What was once innovative has become a lazy crutch, and I feel a sense of exhilaration when everyone survives. I’m invested in these people, and right now I need a drama that is hopeful rather…
I am seriously amazed at how well they adapted the books to television. And I’m with you about the Westworld finale. I love the premise but the finale and general storyline(s) was/were underwhelming. It was disappointing! But holy shit did The Expanse deliver on consolidating multiple storylines and characters--much…
This is exactly what one should have expected from a show whose continuation was in doubt until just recently. And why that was not pointed out in the article is a big miss by the author. There’s only so much last-minute editing that can be done in advance of a firm delivery date, the whole while the network is…
You should watch the episode instead of live blogging it or eating buckets of salt.
This makes up for the Westworld finale. I take no pleasure in saying that. I loved the world building, season one performances, Shogun world, and Akecheta’s episode, but it all built toward a convoluted and dragged out reveal I felt no investment in.
Ashford decides this is the start of some sort of massive explosion that will destroy everything
I disagree, you can argue things turned up a notch pretty quickly but they definitely established that they had limited supplies and were in a desparate situation with limited time before the proto station dragged then further in. To say things had stabilized and that they had time is pretty stupid in my opinion. Their…
Damn. Just...damn.
I don’t think they could drag out rising tension for that long. They did a lot of cues that things were bad. No medicine, stressed shots of officers, repeated callbacks to how much the different factions hate and distrust each other. Only really with Ashford did it feel rushed, but they worked pretty hard to set that…
By and large, I agree. This was, overall, a good episode in a tremendous season.
Can someone get me out of the greys?
Agreed. I thought it was top notch.
