I thought the same thing as a kid, but just recently watched the movie again. It was a lot better, and far more knowingly ridiculous, than I remembered.

I think my personal favorite was when Batman and the Penguin run against each other for mayor.

My favorite joke ever is one of the Riddler's clues in the movie:

That was the most disappointing part, I thought. All-Star was such a
great idea - let top creators do whatever stories they want with their favorite
characters, continuity be damned.

And don't forget The Goddamn Batman's trusty sidekick/kidnappee, Dick Grayson Age Twelve.

Just on general principle, I think that all the men in his life should be played by women, and vice versa. But Dinklage is especially genius.

Yeah, that's one of those things that works (relatively) fine in a comic book drawing, but I honestly don't think anyone will ever be able to do a live-action version of it that doesn't look ridiculous. Like Reed Richards' powers, or 90% of the things Green Lanterns do.

I don't think I'd ever heard of zuvembies before, but that's awesome. There should be a miniseries of Zuvembies vs the Maggia.

I had heard the story somewhere that they wanted to have the X-Men fight a vampire, but those were still not allowed by the Comics Code. So they gave vampire-ish powers to a pterodactyl, since that was as close to a bat as they could get away with.

My personal favorite was Colossus, mostly because he didn't really need aiming.

Counterpoint: it has Nightcrawler jumping up and down on enemies as a finishing move, and that never, ever gets old.

Agreed. I've heard people talk about Friday the 13th as an example of how games used to be harder back in the day. But it wasn't challenging, it was just sadistic and stupid.

One of those headlocks could pop robots' heads clean off, as I recall. Jesus, how I loved that game.

Oh, you.

Yeah, I appreciate that it's a joke, and Damien getting a Red Hood toy in his "Bat-Mite Meal" is actually pretty funny, but the Zsasz wallpaper is a bit too far.

I'm sure there are plenty of ways (mostly involving "Command D") to put him back in, it just struck me as interesting that he had a robot grandmother but no grandfather.

I was surprised to see that Brother Eye symbol, but I like them throwing that in there, just in case someone else wants to run with it later.

I think it depends on how it's negative. Something that reasonably weighs the good and bad in a book and finds more bad can help people appreciate comics in general and learn new ways of thinking about them.

Oh yeah, I forgot OMAC. Speaking of which, Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE was as ridiculous as it sounds but still a lot of fun.

Even if the "big" characters and events at Marvel (Cap, X-Men, the last few crossovers, etc.) seem to be a mess right now, there are still a lot of great smaller-scale stories around the fringes of all that. I'd second Ms Marvel and Squirrel Girl, plus Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Black Panther all come to mind.
