Surely “from a US bargain hunter perspective” the best option is to wait a year for the inevitable “everything and the kitchen sink” edition of the game, which will include all of the DLC and be $20-40 cheaper than the original release.

Paying twice as much for an incomplete unpatched version of a game that will cost half as much and be far more functional six months from now is not what I’d call “bargain hunting.”

I propose you did not read to the end of the post!

Except people like both of these versions of Mario.

Dude, lets be real. Sony was already going to back it. They tried to say “it’s just a game we really want to show off but won’t be doing anything for it” to make them look like the good guys as in “hey, we really just want YOU guys to pay for this so we won’t have to!”. You could tell Sega to eat it if the kickstarter reaches 30 million. As it stands this is but a drop in the bucket and merely a glorified marketing test for a certain big name to push in more money.

One of the developments I’ve hated most on Steam is paid early access, so when Microsoft announced this move into the paid beta testing field, my first two words were “oh shit.” But, there is a key difference here from Steam’s take that’s giving me pause as well as a little hope, and that’s the free trial mentioned.

Microsoft has been about the selling points.
-Early Access: nevermind there will be few, if any, good games available early access because it’s an easy way for a game to get bad press before it’s released
-Backwards Compatibility: the games on the list thus far are absolutely terrible.

But Microsoft can say it supports

I disagree with you. Console games should work perfectly at launch. This is one of the benefits of standardized hardware. Consoles are for people who are lazy if you’re unkind or who don’t want to bother with settings or driver issues or anything if you’re kind. Games should run at a standard depending on the

Sure, developers should be able to test new idea’s, but they shouldn’t make you pay 50 bucks for it in advance. Half of the early access games never get finished or suck big time, because the developers already earned their money and nothing motivates them anymore to actually deliver a decent end product.
