You do realize the Fisker Karma isn't a fully electric vehicle, but a plug-in series hybrid?

Are we absolutely certain we are the main drive behind this mass extinction and not some yet to be understood phenomenon?

There were no bicyclists in Carmageddon... not even motorcycles.

BYD says their e6 Honda Odyssey rip-off has an enormous 60 kW·h battery pack, which if true is the largest in any production electric car, yet they claim it will sell for $35,000 before incentives. If you manufacture your own batteries you can supply yourself and forego enormous profits on the open market, but it's

@Jason Chen,

You can dock any mobile phone to a regular laptop, it's called a "USB cable". Presumably you want something more than this. It's possible, but it's not seamless. First, you would plug your phone into a cradle that holds it next to the laptop screen and connects and powers it over USB. Already there's a problem

That was a reply elsewhere. Buggy Gawker software!

I want to believe it will reach production unchanged in its awesomeness. BMW has three of these vehicles rolling around (the original white & blue show car, the swirly dontblogaboutthis.com, and a silver one that was photographed in Dubai and now in Vancouver for the new Mission Impossible movie).

Because the clean diesel premium added to the hybrid premium is more premium than most buyers will pay. Also diesel has a lingering bad rap for sooty dirty emissions that most car companies are too lazy to overcome. Also the e-CVT in Toyota's HSD lets an Atkinson cycle engine run at its most efficient load most of

The Peugeot 3008 hybrid 4 diesel crossover has a similar "through-the-road" hybrid powertrain and is supposed to go on sale in 2011, but will never make it to the USA. If electronics can seamlessly blend the two power sources this seems a great way to deliver performance AWD and cheap gas-free city driving. The car

It's hard enough for the the Electric Rear Axle Drive to cooperate with a engine delivering power to the front wheels through a slushmatic. Trying to coordinate with random gearchanges from the driver would be... entertaining!

In no way whatsoever is this house a "cultural landmark". The Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ugly, irrelevant, old big house wasn't even among the 80,000 structures listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Have you done anything yourself to ensure actual cultural landmarks are preserved,

1. It's not historic any more than "The Page House" where I live is. Nobody cares about yet another rich guy from the 20s. Every building was designed by an architect with at least a few die-hard fans, but there's a good reason an architecture enthusiast like me has never heard of George Washington Smith: he wasn't

I'm not sure the analogy you're reaching for is the one you want, since "Production of Mercury vehicles ceased in the fourth quarter of 2010."

Verry interesting. Coulomb Tech claims their ChargePoint map indicates which charging stations charge $$, but it doesn't show anything special for that station compared with their free ones.

@CraigSu: Yeah, I preserved the misrepresentations on its Wikipedia page. the Chinese don't realize that in the West you can't rewrite history so easily.

@Tyson: I hear you. Why did Volvo cancel the V70? I think the V50 is on life support in the USA with all engines but the T5 turbo discontinued. If Volvo can't sell station wagons in the USA, there's no hope left. Damn you, "commanding road presence"!

@Xander Crews: Citation please. 30 pounds of nickel in 100 pounds of recyclable batteries in a fairly light 1.5 ton car don't present a very high mountain to overcome if the car gets 20% better mpg than any other new car. Shipping a car is extremely efficient carbon-wise (though locally very polluting in NOx, SOx,

@IronicalBalls: Both are exceptional cars, but they're different approaches to plugging in. Most people need to drive long distances occasionally. The Leaf is an ideal second car for a multi-car household or someone who lives near a car rental agency; the Volt could be your only vehicle. And the Leaf is not the
