Ask a badly-worded question in the title, confuse several questions in the post, stand back and get garbled comments.

A lot of these classics are follow-ons from 199x cars. Aston Martin DB9 is so beautiful, but it's just evolution of 1994's DB7. WRX started 1992 and the 2001 bug-eye wasn't much of an advance. But there are two cars that really started in the oughts:

Where did my comment go? Gawker media, hire a competent programmer!

full hybrids like the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid can be driven in a way that they provide mostly electric power.

@kleinlowe: A queue is what British people stand in waiting for GTA:IV midnight release. A design cue is a "2: a feature indicating the nature of something perceived"

Ray Wert says "the new Small-UV from Auto Union "

@Pope Dearthair the Awesometh: This gets covered over and over in comments, but since no real engineer has stepped up in this thread... A $3 gallon of gasoline is 3.79 liters, with energy of 130 MegaJoules, which is 36 kiloWatt hours. At 12¢ a kWh, the same amount of energy from the electric company would cost you

@JantheMan: The Carmageddon demo blew my mind. Getting "Cunning Stunt" bonuses for driving off a 7-story building. Running over grannies mumbing "I was in the war" in that burnt-out North England wasteland. Taking fifty or more brutal high-speed rammings to destroy a heavier competitor was automotive rough sex.

@Hyman Decent: the Honda EV I saw 20 years ago in Alameda also had a gas flap for a little kerosene heater.

I hope GM has AeroVironment design the actual Volt body. They already designed the most aerodynamic passenger car body ever... for GM, for the Impact prototype to the EV1, 18 years ago.

1988 brought my two favorites. Atari's Hard Drivin' (1988) blew my mind with its steering wheel resistance and clutch. Its sequel Race Drivin' was a precursor to GTA "sandbox" drive anywhere games; you could head off the track and nose around some buildings and a skid pad until your time ran out.

The green "mom" is definitely the one who didn't have any kids, didn't get a soccer mom tank to protect the little whiners, and didn't move to the suburbs.

@Galaxie500: Uhh, USA is responsible for more than 20% of global CO2 (it was 25% 12 years ago), and per capita rates that are the highest (see 2004 charts). Yes, industrializing countries with larger populations will probably overtake the USA, but the only way the USA will have any moral authority to get them to

@altdude: No, it's always better energy-wise to not heat the house, even though you have to heat it up later. There's no benefit to having your heater "lightly working" for 3 hours to maintain heat when you could have had it not working at all. Yet lots of people have this wrong idea.

The Ford Escape hybrid is still the most fuel-efficient AWD car sold in America. SUX that it's an SUV, sux that no other manufacturer has bothered to take that title away from it.

When I visited Hong Kong to stay at the Regent Hotel, I insisted on the Daimler DS420 limo, the same model that ferried the late British Queen Mother, rather than the größer M-Bs that were taking over. The DS420 had real style, the back felt like a cosy, slightly plain, drawing room on wheels.
