I live almost a half-mile off the highway. Last night i thought i heard a drone approaching (sounds like a bunch of angry bees). Turns out it was a vehicle driving down the highway, passing by. I’d bet good money it had aggressive all-terrain tires on it.

Agree, the idea that we can only hear cars from engine noise isn’t really true anymore. Modern cars are extremely quiet - almost all the noise you hear is road noise, and it’s still very audible.

Tire noise is all you get for most ordinary ICE vehicles as well.  If it’s not a truck or a sports car, it’s not making much noise these days either unless under hard acceleration.  Just driving down a neighborhood street?  Tires.

Yeah, I don’t think we needed to mandate all these extra rules around electric cars making noise. The ones in reverse now that sort of make a beep are terrible. I fell like I’m on a construction sight.
