The Omegas in chia and flax require 10x to 20x as much consumption due to how they are converted by the body. It isn’t terribly difficult though, you’re right. It is absolutely doable on a plant based diet... just not without more calories involved. 

You have to eat greater amounts of those (for the most part) to get the same amount of Omega 3s as fish, however.

This theory is advanced by a lot of people that never drive on rural roads.
