Pretty much the same. It's not like old people don't have close friends & relatives who love them; hell, a niece/nephew/neighbor kid/cat/tarantula would be a pretty solid replacement.

Some people do it so their kids support them in their old age. Having kids as a retirement plan is a horrid idea.

Having children with the purpose of not being alone when your old is a stupid and selfish reason.

I've never been particularly career-motivated; my job affords me financial security and I enjoy the work but I'm not passionate about it. I live for the time I get to spend with my wife and young sons.

Child-free does not mean family-free.
