I dunno. I’ve lived in some pretty all-white neighborhoods from time to time, so I feel qualified to say that “normal behavior” in such places appears to be a smorgasbord of bizarrely-specific neuorses, exacerbated by free-floating anxiety and the constant fear that someone, somewhere is “getting away with something.”

so i feel like in the beginning of the pandemic, it was a shorthand for nurses, bus drivers, etc—basically the sort of public facing jobs often held by black people (and other people of color) that put them in harm’s way. but now the connotation seems to have shifted to include anyone who feels like any sort of governm…

They’re not confused. I think what a lot of people are missing is that people like him didn’t spring into being 4 years ago. The Republicans have made the Southern Strategy their main political strategy for decades. This dean is just a product of being white and Republican in the US.

My wife was a nurse on an IMCU, here in the suburbs just north of Seattle where the virus was first detected in the states.

If the resources are being wasted and the patient is known to deny and waste those resources, compassion should be for those who seeks to be cured, not be a drain on resources and compassion.

Seriously, if they don’t believe they’re sick, they shouldn’t get the resources.
