Countermeasures. Even older systems can be effective.

Yeah, because it’s a total shame when the foreign press sends a guy who might need a translator to an awards show hosted by...wait for it...the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Partially correct - The 60T does indeed have a surface search/weather RADAR in it’s nose. ;)

You know what’s actually embarrassing? The comments by the saber-rattlers over on the US Navy Facebook page.

And yet, here we are discussing the damn things. We so suck. :)

Generally speaking, no. However, I imagine there are a few missions undertaken here and there in which a piece or two of specialized comm gear would be installed onboard.

Well, as Tyler stated, and I agree wholeheartedly...at least everything seems to have been handled professionally once the ball started rolling. It’s no different than we would’ve done.

Yeah, I’ve run that exact route dozens of times, and it smelled of complacent BS since I first saw where they were.

does seem to conflict with international rules

An “imaginary line” that even America completely recognizes, and tries to respect, along with many ther countries.

Excellent summary and write up of events, Tyler.

Yep.

No, I DO honestly think that the intended to avoid it. For whatever reason however, they merely decided to skirt a bit too close...that wouldn’t have been my first choice, having made that run several times.

Well “Wheels”, I wasn’t saying that there was an issue with GPS itself, but rather the course they chose for themselves on their transit. In my professional opinion, as a QM of 20 years, they tried to take a shortcut...and it went badly for them.

Perhaps, but the range of the CB90 boats is around 240nm at 20kts, which is not too far off from the total distance they had to cover from Bahrain to Kuwait.

True, but Farsi Island is REALLY easy to pass by without having to pass anywhere near that 12nm limit.

Yeah. You’re right. I only spent 20 years in the Navy as a navigator, with 6 of those driving and navigating similar small boats and assault craft in the same area, under the same laws and regulations, passing by Farsi Island dozens of times without incident.

So, apparently you aren’t familiar with International Maritime Law, or those governing the territorial seas of sovereign nations? Check.

HAD you bothered to continue reading, you would have discovered that I corrected myself.
