Streaming was supposed to save independent film by giving those filmmakers a safer environment to foster an audience, and then Bright came along, and suddenly they learned what every theatrical studio learned long ago -which is that there’s more to mine from the David Ayers of the world than the Whit Stillmans or

Day is the best guy there.

Agree on the year being a bit underwhelming. Not that there aren’t, as there are every year, a strong group of great films, but last year my top-ten went about 19 movies long, and this year - of the movies that have actually come way (so no Lady Bird, Florida Project, The Post, Phantom Thread, Shape of Water, Faces

Staying Vertical showing up makes this list.

Jason’s dumbness feels like a hindrance to the show’s themes too, since he’s too dumb to potentially change, learn, grow and become a better person. Like Frank Grimes to Homer Simpson, his floating through (the after-) life irritates me.

I loved this episode because it really gave the supporting characters some time to shine. Maribeth Monroe was my favourite part of Workaholics for years and I love her in this even more (give her an entire episode please); and I love the evil reigns that are off of Fake Eleanor now and the fact that Tiya Sircar

“You mean you can wear stripper clothes when you’re not stripping?”

Vernon defacing his passed-out wife with ‘Bad Mom’ and a penis is one of those dysfunctional acts that, as an unmarried man, I want so bad to assume is actually a sign of a healthy marriage (their relationship seems somewhat honest to me, as in, the resentment is in the open).

Glad Westworld won nothing. Disappointed The Leftovers got no love at all. Veep over Atlanta is funnier than anything post-Iannucci. :(

Seems intentional but it is weird that he didn’t feature in more flashbacks.

Reminded me of the IT Crowd finale “pedal stool” joke.

I just enjoy having this show back in my life. Goggins and McBride are perfect unwind TV, and I love adults screaming at high school kids for some reason.

This was fine but I sense the show is so utterly comfortable and happy with itself that a lot of the humour felt lazy to me; like it felt like it was written on auto-pilot, much like Interdimensional Cable 2 from last season. The fake clip-show worked with Community in part because I believe the cast was diverse and

This was such a meh season overall. It stumbled at the halfway mark and then just kind of meandered around for several episodes. I feel like I watched the same episode six times. At least last season there was variety. This was ‘Season 2 of The Walking Dead’ barn-level grating at times with that hotel and Denis.

This is what watching classic Community felt like it. Something special indeed.

“He had a yellow shirt.” “Yeah, make sure you write THAT down.”

I liked coming here to read comments sorted by ‘new’. It’s taken me, like, three hours just to sign up.
