Accountability is a two-way street.

Seriously. My city just can’t fill it’s roster because the pay is so bad. Make being a cop a financially-rewarding job and you’ll have people competing for those jobs. Better quality people, too.

Overpaid and unqualified.

Look at other countries, where they have a much better relationship between the cops and the civilians and a lot less incidents of cops shooting people randomly or the like. Now look at the training and testing requirements to be a police person in these countries.

I’m not anti-cop, but yeah some meathead just cost taxpayers an Explorer.

I get yelled at for proposing roughly this same theory all the time: You want better policing? Cut the police force in half, leave the payroll the same. See who shows up for the job. 

Police departments actually actively avoid people who are “too smart”. Many depts reject applicants with IQs deemed too high, believing they’ll become dissatisfied with the job and want to leave.

We need to be paying our police officers more, so that they can afford to hire people who aren’t this goddamn stupid.
