Yup. I actually haven't felt this kind of cultural despair since 2001 (obviously I've felt varying kinds of personal sadness in the interim). It's like some kind of repudiation of everything that I [naively] believed about my society. A large part of that is down to my bubble, obvs, but it's super depressing

To be fair, I think many would claim that Nintendo tries too hard to move forward, with things like dual screens, 3D displays, and motion controls. That's actually the side of the company I prefer, so the NES Classic doesn't do anything for me, but I guess it's good to see them embracing the old and the new.

I suspect you could make a decent amount of cash selling your old 3DS on Amazon if you are inclined to pick up the N3DS Black Friday deal. Having sold an original DSiXL earlier this year for almost $100, I think you may well be able to make a profit and still obtain the improved model.

The controller cord length on the NES Classic is one of the most mystifying design decisions made by a company with a long list of them. I'm not interested in the device, but it's good to see it inspiring so much joy in so many people. We needed a little more joy in the world this week - like so many others, I'm

AHHHH why can't this be true?!

I get where this is coming from, but let's not forget how ridiculous and obnoxious it sounded over the past eight years. We're in a deeply distressing, heartbreaking situation, but it's not one that we can wish or pretend our way out of.

Considering how often wi-fi drops 1080p and how much data providers are charging for such middling service, I suspect you're right.

Oh gosh, that's extra frustrating that this is the first election in which you voted! I had the opposite experience, as mine was 2008. It's small consolation, but this is likely the most rancorous election in the past century, so at least it's all up from here. As for the President-elect's anti-Semitism, it is indeed

Entirely agree, even as a person who can find nothing but bitterness and sadness in his heart today. We've had truly, truly terrifying times as a nation before, and we will again, but we'll get through it by opting to help the vulnerable and marginalized whether the established power structure is helpful or not.

Given the complexity of chemicals and environment in impacting your state of mind, I doubt it's super relevant, but I (and others here) would be devastated to not have the pleasure of your presence. On top of the simple fact that you are valued for your humanity, yours are some of the articles and comments I love most

I didn't even know there were that many games for the Xbox One. (this may out me as an owner of primarily Nintendo hardware…)

Totally agreed - the move towards unreadable fonts and non-adjustable UI is a truly mystifying one to me.

Which name were you? I know some of the AVClubbers Nintendo handles, but I don't recall yours. I was Chrs!

Heck yes, Mario Kart 8 was an utter blast last night. Thank you so much for organizing it - the rest of the night was… challenging.

Funny enough, I'm actually scared to look into or purchase a 4K monitor/television. I picked up a decent PC and a GTX 970 this past year, and have been comfortable with 1080p for the last decade or so. That said, a significant portion of my desire for the GTX card was seeking a card that could produce a reliable 60fps

Good luck! If the UK, the US, Turkey, the Phillipines, and others are any indication, our global societies are falling to backwards nationalists like clockwork. Like Britain told us after Brexit, "don't think it can't happen to you too." I hope this doesn't come across as overly pessimistic; we're just all a bit shook

Any time I've considered seeking work in the private sector, or for higher pay, I am reminded of the fact that I get to wake up in the morning and go into an office that does good in the world. It may be very stressful at times, but at this point I honestly can't imagine working somewhere that doesn't offer that

I don't know why that bothers me more than anything else. Like, at least Michigan is classic Rust Belt and Florida's full of crazy people, but New Hampshire?! Really?

If nothing else, at least this is one of the most poetic expressions I've heard of the "Trump mind."

Strangely, I had one of Philadalphia's own Thomas Jefferson beers last night. Seems weirdly appropriate to be drinking a recipe (theoretically) invented by one of our nation's founders on one of the darkest nights I've experienced in that nation's history.
