I was in Istanbul this time last year. The human rights record of the government is indeed awful, and it’s not a safe place if you are an opposition journalist, but it’s perfectly safe as a tourist or business traveler. There may be reason to avoid racing  there as a protest to the regime, but I wouldn’t worry about…
