Very true. He might drive at hearse speed everywhere and there are crashes going on around him. He’s oblivious and gives his car a little tap of joy after putting it back in the garage.

I watched a very old man reverse out of his parking spot in his mint condition 1995 Lexus. I started counting in my head after 30 seconds of waiting, it was genuinely 2 minutes to reverse out, turn and proceed. Admittedly he hit nothing. But surely he’s a crash waiting to happen.
People make catastrophic financial decisions daily. I wish people would pause for a moment and think it through. But they want the shiny thing ASAP. 3 months later once the shiny has worn off and they’ve got a huge car payment they’re looking at another 50+ months of payments.
I had a look on AutoTempest and as soon as I clicked manual only a whole world of interesting cars popped up. I set $15-20k, max mileage 50k and found a dozen or more cars I’d happily own today.
Agreed, having a base Corolla on low APR with maintenance included, that is near on guaranteed to get your to and from work without issues is a good investment. Not exactly fun, but sometimes needs must.
Don’t underestimate people’s snobbery to have a badge.
It will be the 60 year old who’s turned in a lease every three years like clockwork for 15-20 years who ends up buying this. The trick will be to buy it off lease for half when it’s done 19k miles.
Get a one year old 450h for $45-50k and it’s almost exactly the same car. It won’t break, the mileage is almost the same. Saved $20k or go on a series of really nice holidays.
Seems like a better deterrent would be the Swiss model of speeding fines being based on car value x net worth of individual type formula
I mean, it’s fairly ugly looking, but I bet it’s built well and will take a hammering like a champ.
Range Rover lite - the new Jeep.
Fuck me. How much are you being paid for all the anti-EV articles on here? There’s one every day at least.
There are 596 showing near me, but I did a couple of enquiries and all three had $10k DMU.
Other than the Kia and Hyundai the rest are remarkably similar looking.
It never happened. They did a preventative recall as the nuts weren’t torqued per spec, but nobody had wheels that actually fell off.
There’s a difference between a car caught in an active maneuver and one just parked outside a coffee shop.
Same tech as an AirTag in a different format. They still get stolen. There’s a video on YouTube where a guy tries to get his stolen VanMoof bike back and it goes pretty badly. The thief starts cutting the spokes on it and vandalising it when confronted.
Maybe, but if it grenades itself Costco have a pretty good return policy don’t they? An unscrupulous person might get one, ride the hell out of it then return it in 11 months 25 days.
Agreed, except half a dozen companies stole their frame design, so that unique aspect doesn’t hold up sadly.
I bet you’ll be able to challenge it. If the car is stationary and not near a junction, no mitigating circumstances like you suggest, I’m fine with giving them a ticket.
