Great article. An alternative to a tent is a basic nylon tarp setup as a shelter. An array of sizes can be had almost anywhere for $10-$20. There are tradeoffs (not as much protection from the elements, may be noisier in the wind) but in a pinch, it may do just fine.

I foresee a market for devices that lie for you. At least if the data they send is ever really used to determine raises or insurance rates, etc.
