Counterpoint again, why don’t we just build roads incorporating FUTURE demand, not current? We KNOW widening roads will increase traffic, do instead of adding a single lane, add 3 and be done. Instead, roads are constantly playing catch-up because no one plans for the future. Outside Denver, they widened i25 to 3

It’s a misconception that widening roads doesn’t improve traffic.

The big thing that happened is that to be successful in the 1950s was to live in a nice home outside the city and go to work. Then the roads had to get wider, which meant more of downtown was bulldozed and turned into parking lots and the like. Which made downtown a crap hole to flee, which reinforced commuters in

Yeah, I’ve been to places where you can walk around an enjoy downtown or a cool shopping district or whatever.  Parking is a fricking nightmare there and ironically, the lack of parking makes it less popular.

A major factor in this is American culture. I’m going to go back to WAY before cars here.

Another political piece on what used to be a great car site. No matter what your politics are this used to be a place people could come together and read about cars. Now most articles are divisive clickbait. Erin you seem to miss the point of this site and aren't welcome here.

Across the board, all car classes have seen increases in fuel efficiency, and it seemed like gas prices were about to level out at a high, but no where near 2008 (inflation adjusted) high. People weren’t pricing in a gas shock like we’re seeing (and which may be transitory). We don’t (currently) have a recession, and

Because you added air conditioning in a vehicle that has a window constantly open.

So the owner is an idiot who didn’t do the maintenance he was supposed to and is lamely trying to get public sympathy in the hopes he’ll get a new engine out of it.

Speed is a huge factor in whether a pedestrian dies.

You can love a place without loving its government.

She also appeared to be reporting from the side of the road without any reflective clothing.”

Yea I don’t know why we give technology a pass for things we get mad at other humans for. It’s basically “when my kid does it, it’s cute, when yours does it, it’s irritating”. It’s still a decently impressive system though. Surprised to hear Tesla doesn’t rely on Lidar and such.

I think we should strongly consider “would immediately end a driving test” as a valid criteria to stop a public beta of any self-driving system. Until it can complete (and pass) a basic driving test, we should probably limit test vehicles to people hired and trained to properly monitor and control the vehicle.

Once again the age old lesson bites someone in the ass: No title? No cash transfers hands.

Yeah, that is definitely not what that quoted segment says.

though those also probably depend on who wins the presidency in 2024, and whether that person believes that climate change is real or not. It’s a great system.”

Heh....as someone who works in the auto industry as a powertrain engineer, this whole “fleet economy” thing is incredibly dumb. It’s actually difficult to describe how stupid it is to regulate vehicles this way.

Any.

A large scale industrial manufacturer like Thor Industries?
