Did you do the crafting quests? That explains much of the basics, including attaching power lines. Yeah, much of it has a trial and error element of it, but that’s way more fun.

I felt like you could get good at those controls, and I spent a ton of time in the multiplayer of that game. 3 and 4 undid player proficiency because it seemed to try to guess
