You know what made me try harder as a kid? Losing. I thought the embarrassment of losing was enough motivation.

We are not all winners. You will lose more times than you win. The sooner kids grasp that, the better. You want your kids to feel good about their participation, pat them on the back when the seasons done, tell them “Im proud of you” and take them to DQ for a cherry dipped cone. Theyll remember and appreciate that…
I don’t disagree, but at what age does it stop. I think as they get older there are good lessons that can be taught about losing too (losing gracefully, and how to handle it losing correctly). I think around 8-10 years old they can be done with the participation trophy.
I dunno, I feel like there is a lot of gray area. I’m all for participation trophies and letting kids be kids and not pushing them into a win or lose mindset.
I cannot stop starring your comments. As a fellow Bay Area 9er fan, we are so #FUCKED when the team opens up Monday Night...SO FUCKED.
"Why all the hate against poor old Jed York?!? We think he's absolutely wonderful" — EVERYBODY, Ann Arbor, MI
Right. I think the “nope” is what kills me. It’s just so succint and perfect. Like he’s resigned that there will always be someone who ruins a mock draft and he’s happy it’s the first pick so he can just leave immediately. Charlie is a true hero.
I like to imagine he’s genuinely not pissed, and laughing to himself as he goes to find a new draft room.
This is a microcosm for something. Idk why but I’m fucking dying at this. Crying laughing literally.
Trophies are the new party favors, I think we pretty much all understand that. But sheesh, does the word “award” have to be in there?
“ Try working with millenials.”
Psychologists are actually agreeing with the growing resentment towards participation trophies. Real Sports had a piece on it last month, maybe disregard it was helmed by Bernie Goldberg, but the people interviewed were smart and intelligent. My sister, a licensed psychologist, agreed with the sentiment. As a music…
For whoever has not seen it, it’s worth watching Real Sports on HBO from July where they did a whole piece on participation trophies. They spoke with a psychologist who discussed that trophy culture is legitimately fucking up children and raising their expectations too high for when they hit the real world and…
I went to high school (very old, very British) with Stevens; he was a few years behind me and I remember him well. My senior year (equivalent), the senior winter play was Macbeth, and Stevens, then in what would have been ninth grade, got the lead. He was already the size of the seniors, and he stalked around the…
None of her allegations implicate SkyBar for dram shop liability. She doesn’t claim to have been incapacitated by being over-served. The allegations don’t include any misconduct at or by SkyBar. Also, in New York, the victim wouldn’t be able to hold SkyBar liable for over-serving her under the dram shop law. She was a…
I watched I Am Number Four just because of how bad I heard the movie was. When I saw this scene ( and this is the only thing I remember), I said “Oh, Michael Bay directed this.”
So basically...Cris Carter is a victim-blaming loser?
Speaking as a former Service Advisor...
If Jay Cutler would occasionally punch a CB maybe they’d think twice about intercepting him so often.
I dunno why but I envisioned Cat Baker delivering that epi-pen a la Vincent Vegas to Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction with Dick Dale's Miserlou in the background.
