Yep, my therapist said no way did I have to forgive the person who created so much trauma in my life. People do unforgivable things and it’s ok to recognise that, acknowledge that it’s unforgivable and move on. It does not mean you’re holding on to it or that you can’t get over it.

Not forgiving doesn’t mean you’re holding on, though. Sometimes someone does something that you just can’t forgive. You let it go, move on, but do not forgive. It’s perfectly ok and sensible.

You said it much better than I just did. When someone does something that causes you harm/pain/whatever you don’t need to forgive them in order to move on and be happy, productive and full of good things. I have never forgiven the person who did something horrible to me and I’m super ok with that. They don’t deserve…

I’m with you. I hear people say ‘you forgive for yourself’ but for me, I choose to not forgive for myself. Someone once did horrible things that had a hugely negative impact on my life, with the fallout going on for several years. They do not feel any remorse about what they did and I do not see any reason to forgive…
