Electrification of airliners is probably going to work in the opposite direction: burn dinosaurs for take-off and climb, then use batteries and/or internal generator for cruise power since the power demands are so much less.

Or better yet- that part of air travel should be powered by ground-based devices. I had proposed (half in jest) that we use a humongous Acme brand rubber brand, to shoot airplanes into the sky. And when airplanes land, they fly right into these giant rubber bands, and stretch them back , ready for the next plane!

Short answer: The amount of electrical power needed to move a commercial airliner into the sky outstrips said batteries power capacity and output. Also, an electrically powered jet engine will be designed very differently from an fuel burning one.
