That's a tough surgery! Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. Don't enjoy the Oxy too much.

I’m so sad! I had coffee with Ms. Locke a few years ago to discuss a project. She was so lovely. Kind, smart, a little eccentric, but really a joy to spend a morning drinking coffee (she had tea) and talking about film. She was such a talented woman, both as an actress and filmmaker. She will be missed.

Do the recovery exercises, even if they hurt.

A good friend of mine has had five joint replacements (both hips, one of them twice with a spacer in between surgeries, and one knee). She says that joint replacement is absolutely the most life-improving advancement of the late twentieth century.  The surgery is nobody’s idea of fun (my mom used to hate doing them

All the best for your surgery! For what it’s worth, the people I’m personally aware of who have artificial knees or hips are all super-happy with their choice.

My chiropractor had a hip & knee replacement surgery several years ago, plus had her lumbar vertebrae surgically fused. She explained that was necessary in her case after 30 years of decathlons and weight lifting.

We have several friends who have had the surgery, including one double replacement (staggered, one then the other.). Based on their experience and advice: Treat your physical therapy like a job - don’t scrimp or cheat. Be kind to yourself, and realize that it will take awhile to get back to 100%.

My dad had his done, straight home that afternoon. No problems at all- did all the physio he was meant to, and all his exercises at home. My uncle had his done, but did not do the exercises he was given. His has had to be done again.

My mother had partial knee replacement about five years ago. It was successful. Now her other knee hurts.

FWIW, my ex’s dad had a knee relpacement done in his early 70's. He suffered with near crippling pain for years. The whole procedure went smoothly, he did about 2 months of PT as I recall. He said had he known how much better it would feel, he would’ve done years earlier.

I haven’t but have had several friends who did. Based on their recoveries, I would say, do everything they tell you to do and you’ll be fine.

Get all the Percocet 10/325's you can. I hurts like raw fuck for a while, but then you’re so glad you went ahead and did it.

My b-i-l who's in his 60s has two artificial knees and he's a ski instructor. He complains about a lot of things, but not his knees.

I believe that was a woman named Hyacinth.  I read that, too.

I’m screaming. lol

For sheer price, the family home.

I went on vacation to the Galapagos Islands with my friend three years ago, and then went to Provence and Marseilles with my best friend in the same year. It was my 40th year, so I just said “fuck it,” I’m gonna enjoy myself. Neither trip was really that expensive, but two of those bad boys in one year is not my usual

That’s not fair.

Usually I don’t like mean comments, but this one was so funny and so accurate, I had to star you. Keep on sick burning.

But now you have chicken salad that you can dole out during the week when you want lunch!
