Wow, honestly, I never realized that was Mitch Hurwitz in that episode.  I read about him all the time but never really knew what he looked like.

They really did.  The exhaust pipe was apparently submerged in the mud.  I also have a hard time wrapping my brain around how someone (let alone 3 people) could die that way, no matter how drunk they might be.
