This article doesn’t directly quote the woman, just the immigration official, so I’m taking it with a grain of salt. If there was a direct quote from her in the Haeretz story (the link doesn’t work, so I can’t see) then I would take her at her word.

I am not denying that she could be a lesbian. But the if someone claims that a former relationship with a man makes you completely straight, they are discounting the fact that bisexuals exist, and bisexuals are still part of the LGBT community and are still persecuted on the basis of their sexual orientation.

But she could be bisexual. We are not in her head so we can’t know. But I think being persecuted for having a relationship with a woman is the important part, not whether or not she is a “true” lesbian.
