The suspension wouldn't be unloaded unless you're supporting the frame/body from below - you can't just grab a wheel and pull down and have the suspension extend unless there's an equal and opposite force on the body.

The one on top has its suspension noticeably unloaded, too...

And the water pumps were externally mounted, so they're a piece of cake to replace... none of this removing timing covers to dig in to get to it nonsense.
