Twitter can be good, I follow a few famous folks who I like their work and I like what they share on twitter. I follow some companies like Pardox Interactive who have some great contests (and I've won some stuff). A few others give out codes for games on steam or hidden characters.

There is a sizeable fan group of MK that is very punkish/gangster wannabes. Watch the youtube videos netherstorm posted for the variations of the characters. It's filled with this sort of stuff. People who (often) have crazy assumptions and threaten people who disagree.
