You don’t need watch anime to get it and while I DO like Anime I have never watched Detective Conan and don’t need to for the joke to work.

NIche market refers to a market in which there are very few people interested in.  When the gaming industry is a multi-billion dollar/euro business, you can’t exactly call that a “niche market”.  You’re applying the term to too broad of a spectrum.

I think they’re a company that’s well past its prime, regrettably. Think of how long it took them to make FFXIII only to get “one long tunnel,” then think of how long it took to make FFXV only to get what felt like the world’s smallest open world game ever.
