The Cineplex Landsdowne threatre here in Ottawa has three VIP auditoriums. The three are in a separate area with a bar outside the auditoriums where you can get table service (food and drink). Inside the auditoriums there is serving staff that will bring food and drink to you. Not just the usual popcorn, etc but…

I used to work as a manager at a theatre in downtown Toronto. We would have concession carts loaded up with popcorn, candy, etc. The person operating the cart wouldn’t go up and down the aisles but would stay at the bottom of the stairs and save anyone who wanted to get their seats before food a trip.

One problem is where is the government going to get the money? Just yesterday the Parliamentary Budget Officer estimated that a national UBI would cost about C$76 billion a year, which is about $43 billion more than what the federal government currently spends on low-income and unemployed Canadians.

As a Canadian, fiscally conservative means something different to me. In the US, it seems to be code for “fuck the poor”. In Canada I would say it means “live within your means”. To put that on a federal government level, fund and maintain a proper social safety net, but don’t be like Greece and run budget deficits…
