I’m fairly sure that’s not true. This isn’t a classic Ferrari, Porsche, or hell, even a busted Jaguar with the Lucas electronics on the fritz. This is a Chrysler-era Lambo we’re talking about. More was invested into R&D and engineering for the Matchbox and Hot Wheels replicas than on the actual Diablo.
